Ashfall Chronicle
Ashfall Chronicle is a proper RPG that respects your time without dumbing itself down. You build a party of four, each with branching skill trees, and work through a story about a kingdom slowly being buried under volcanic ash. The writing is better than most mobile RPGs — characters actually change their minds about things.
Combat is turn-based and leans on positioning. Placing your mage behind the front line matters, and status effects stack in ways that reward planning. We lost a few fights early simply because we ignored the terrain, which honestly felt fair.
It's generous with offline progress too, so you won't feel punished for putting it down for a day. If you like deep RPGs and have the patience for a story that takes its time, this one is worth installing.
What we liked
- Thoughtful turn-based combat with real tactics
- Characters and story that develop properly
- Fair progression, no pressure to grind endlessly
